- One Month In -
I've lived in New York for over a month now and boy a lot has happened in such a short amount of time. I started my job at Crown Publishing - which I LOVE. Currently I'm working on mechanicals, so I am designing everything except the front cover of a book jacket. I create the spine, back cover, and inside flaps based upon the cover that has already been designed. Once a design is made, I print out a mockup and it gets routed to about 4 or so other people in production, editorial, etc... who make corrections, changes, and give feedback. The process starts over again after revisions until eventually it is perfect and ready to be printed. Design skills being utilized include layout, package design, and typography which again, I love. Jesus really knew what he was doing when he opened this door for me. I could not be more thankful.
I celebrated my 2nd July 4th in the city this week. Meredith and I ate watermelon and drank hard cider on her Hells Kitchen rooftop. We originally thought we would be able to watch the fireworks from her roof, as they are usually displayed from the Hudson, however, this year Macy's decided to switch to the East River. We couldn't see the fireworks after all but we decided to party it up anyway. We watched East of Eden (because James Dean), many a Baby Driver song was played, and many a watermelon was eaten - it was a good time. I also recently decided that in August, I want to make the move to Manhattan. Right now I'm living in Brooklyn, and I love it here, but it is just too far from Penguin. I am definitely not someone who enjoys commuting, something I now realize. Jesus opened yet another door for me this week because a gal from Apostles Church, the church I've been attending, is also going to be moving during the same time (shout-out to Heather if you're reading!) and we decided to start looking for a place together. This is a huge weight off my shoulders because finding the right roommates can make or break a living situation as anyone who has had roommates surely knows. My trust in the Lord has been tested this month but Jesus continues to work out everything and it is far better than I could have imagined. I know things won't be easy forever, but so far all the chips have been falling right into place and that's how I know I'm where I'm supposed to be.
